New York Opera Fest 2017: The Martina Arroyo Foundation Presents Ken Benson in 2017 Master Series

By Katharine Baran

As part of this year’s New York Opera Fest, The Martina Arroyo Foundation’s young artist program presents a masterclass taught by Ken Benson at 12:00 p.m. EDT on June 26, 2017 at the Brecher Hall at Hunter College.

As part of the organization’s Prelude of Performances, Benson, the famed agent and opera expert, will speak to the singers about the business of opera. He is known as leading representative of classical singers and for the past 25 years, he has headed his own Division as Vice-President at Columbia Artists Management, Inc.

While working there he has helped countless young singers and stage directors develop their careers and become successful. He built his reputation impressing opera companies, symphony orchestras, recital series, and festivals around the world.

With Benson’s knowledge of singing and vocal repertoire, he focuses on each singer individually so that they can learn and grow at their own pace and ensure the health of each performer’s voice.

Benson teaches classes regularly all around the US at young artist programs and lectures. Benson also spends some of his time as an adjudicator of the numerous leading vocal competitions. In the 2014-2015 season, he was Career Consultant with Washington National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists Program.

Along with all of that he is a lecturer, interviewer, and writer on the subject of opera and is a long time host of the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts.
