This Friday, June 2, 2017, Opera Lafayette will present “Les Indes Galantes- Part IV.” The production will start at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

The storyline is set in North America and is a multinational love story between a Frenchman Damon, a Spaniard, and an American Indian named Adario who are all fighting for the chief’s daughter Zima.

In the end, Zima, who is played by Sherezade Panthaki, chooses Adario, who is played by Victor Sicard and then the whole cast celebrates in the “Fortes pasibles” (“Peaceful forests”), an idyllic deception of different cultures living peacefully together with nature and one another.

This concert, or semi-staged reading, was based off an 18^th-century visit of American Indian chiefs to France and was performed as the last piece of Les Indes Galantes.  The performance will start off with a group of other entrees from Les Indes Galantes.

The singer playing Don Alvar has not yet been decided, but it is known that tenor Robert Getchell will play Damon.  Altogether the cast, Opera Lafayette Orchestra, and Gallery Voices will highlight the music of the French composers.

The production will be held at the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
