New Amsterdam Opera Presents Rarely Performed ‘La Forza del Destino’

By Katharine Baran

With much anticipation, the New Amsterdam Opera is bringing “La Forza del Destino” back to the stage in New York City after a long absence.

“We believe that this work has not been performed in New York City in at least ten years,” said Keith Chambers, artistic director.

This rare concert performance will happen on Friday, March 24th in Manhattan at the Riverside Theater. The performance will feature tenor Errin Brooks, who recently won the Top Prize in the George London Foundation Competition. He will take on the role of Alvaro.

Keith Chambers will conduct the performance which will also showcase veteran tenor Robert Brubaker as Trabucco and soprano Kelly Griffin as Leonora.

Besides with “La Forza del Destino” tomorrow, the New Amsterdam Opera is looking to present more works and newer singers throughout their season.

“Along with our initial production of Beethoven’s ‘Fidelio,’ we look to provide young and upcoming singers with major opportunities to perform significant roles alongside veteran singers, many of whom perform often at the Metropolitan Opera,” said Chambers.

The company’s “Fidelio” performance, which took place on June 9, 2016, featured, among others, soprano Kirsten Chambers who just made her Met Opera debut this fall in the title role of Strauss’ “Salome.”

Here is a preview of what’s in store for audiences in this Friday’s “Forza” performance:
