Nadine Sierra Out, Ellie Dehn In For San Francisco’s 2017-18 ‘Manon’ Production With Michael Fabiano

No more Nadine Sierra at San Francisco Opera next season. Instead, soprano Ellie Dehn will replace the recent Richard Tucker Award winner in next season’s production of “Manon.”

The official announcement was made on Monday, indicating that Dehn would sing all six performances of the run which kicks off on Nov. 5, 2017 and ends on Nov. 22, 2017.

According to the announcements, Sierra found it difficult to leave the production noting that the decision “an extremely difficult one to make, but after considerable deliberation, I realized the role was simply too heavy at this point in my vocal development.”

That means that Dehn will get a chance to showcase her talents alongside star tenor Michael Fabiano, who will essay the role of Chevalier des Grieux for the first time in his career.

“It’s an honor to take on Manon for the wonderful audiences in San Francisco. I look forward to bringing this iconic role to life next season,” said the soprano of the announcement.

Dehn is not unfamiliar to San Francisco audiences as she portrayed Musetta in this season’s production of “La Bohème.” She has built a solid international career that includes performances at London’s Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Munich’s Bavarian State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, Rome’s Teatro dell’Opera and Naples’ Teatro di San Carlo, and the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
