Celso Albelo has canceled his performances in the upcoming of “Manon” at the Bilbao Opera.

The company announced that Albelo was forced to cancel due to a family matter. As a result, Michael Fabiano will take the role of Des Grieux alongside Irina Lungu.

The production marks Fabiano’s return to Bilbao where he debuted in “Lucia di Lammermoor” alongside Diana Damrau. The tenor is currently performing in “Rigoletto” at the Royal Opera House and is slated to take on “Il Corsaro” at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia as well as “La Bohème” and “Lucia di Lammermoor” at the Metropolitan Opera. He also returns to Opera Frankfurt and the Los Angeles Opera for “Rigoletto.”

Albelo returns to the stage in February at the Opera di Firenze for “La Favorite.” He also sings “I Puritani” in April.

Alain Guingal conducts the production by Arnaud Bernard. The production runs from Jan. 20 through the 29.
