Metropolitan Opera 2018-19 Live in HD Preview: Diana Damrau & Juan Diego Flórez To Shine in ‘La Traviata’

The Met Opera will continue its Live in HD series this Saturday, Dec 15, 2018, with a performance of Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The broadcast, which kicks off 12:55 p.m. Eastern time, is set Diana Damrau as the lead heroine with Quinn Kelsey as Germont, and Juan Diego Flórez as her lover Alfredo.

This is Damrau’s fifth HD broadcast with her first one coming in 2011 in “Le Comte Ory.” She has also been seen in movie theaters worldwide in such operas as “Rigoletto,” “Les Pêcheurs de Perles,” and “Roméo et Juliette.”

This will be Flórez’s seventh Live in HD broadcast. In 2007, he appeared in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” which was followed by “La Fille du Régiment, “La Sonnambula,” “Le Comte Ory,” “La Cenerentola,” and “La Donna del Lago” He previously worked with Damrau in “Le Comte Ory,” making this their second HD broadcast together.

Quinn Kelsey will get his third at-bat in the HD arena after appearing in “La Bohème” in 2008 and in “Aida,” just a few months ago.

This is the third Live in HD transmission of the season. It will be followed “Adriana Lecouvreur” on Jan. 12, “Carmen” on Feb. 2, “La Fille du Régiment” on March 2, “Die Walküre” on March 30, and “Dialogues des Carmélites” on May 11.
