By Francisco Salazar

Everytime a new season is announced we put all the attention seeing which superstars are performing what opera and with whom. Nowadays, most of the world’s biggest stars have already showcased their talents on the Met stage, but every year we see someone new and interesting that gets us pumped. Here are the five Met debuts we are looking forward to in 2017-18.

Evelyn Herlitzius

One of the greatest dramatic sopranos of our time makes her long-awaited Metropolitan Opera debut. For years the soprano has dominated the Wagnerian repertoire singing Brünhilde and Kundry in The Ring Cycle and “Lohengrin” around the world. She has also become the go-to “Elektra” and has toured the Met’s current production to Barcelona and Aix-en-Provence among other cities.  This year Met audiences will finally get to hear her in the role of Kundry in “Parsifal.” With her expressive voice and piercing expression, this is a soprano you cannot miss next year.

Tara Erraught

The Irish Mezzo has been in demand all over the world and has been in many acclaimed productions. Her breakout came when she stepped in on five-days’ notice, learning the role of Romeo in Bellini’s “I Capuleti e i Montecchi” at the Bayerische Staatsoper in 2011. This season Met audiences will finally get a chance to hear her in one of her acclaimed interpretations – Nicklausse in “Les Contes d’Hoffmann.”

Alexander Vinogradov

The Russian bass is making a highly acclaimed debut in one the Met’s most exciting revivals. Vinogradov will sing the role of Walter in Verdi’s “Luisa Miller.” Having made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre at the age of 21 as Oroveso in Norma, the bass has been active at the Palau de les Arts, Zurich Opera and Teatro Real Madrid.

Michaela Schuster

Renowned for her Wagnerian roles, most prominently Ortrud in “Lohengrin,” Schuster has shown her dramatic force throughout the world. She is high demand around Europe so this will be a welcome debut for a singer of such talent. Schuster will perform the role of  Klytämnestra in Strauss’ “Elektra.”

Angel Blue

Considered one of the most promising singers of her generation, Blue has been performing at some of the leading theaters in the world. She has headlined important galas in Baden Baden and has also been the host of the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Now Blue will finally get a chance to enchant Met audiences with her acclaimed Mimì in Puccini’s “La Boheme.”
