Metropolitan Opera 2017-18 Live in HD: Mozart’s ‘Così Fan Tutte’ At Coney Island

By David Salazar

This Saturday, audiences around the world will get a chance to see a rare performance of Mozart’s “Così Fan Tutte” in cinemas as part of the company’s famed Live in HD broadcast.

The showcase kicks off at 12:55 p.m. EDT and will star Amanda Majeski, Serena Malfi, Kelli O’Hara, Ben Bliss, Adam Plachetka, and Christopher Maltman in a new production by Phelim McDermott set in 1950’s Coney Island.

This will be the second time that the opera appears as part of the Live in HD series. During the 2013-14 season, the work was presented in a production that starred Susanna Phillips, Danielle de Niese, Isabel Leonard, and Matthew Polenzani, under the musical direction of James Levine. Other Mozart operas to get the HD treatment include “Le Nozze di Figaro,” “Don Giovanni,” “La Clemenza di Tito,” “Idomeneo,” and “The Magic Flute (in both English and German).”

This is the latest work in the Live in HD transmission of the season. It will then be followed by “Luisa Miller” on April 14, and “Cendrillon” on April 28.
