By Francisco Salazar

San Francisco’s acclaimed Merola Opera Program will continue its Star of Tomorrow program with Mozart’s “Il Re Pastore.”

Performances will be conducted by Stephen Stubbs, a leading figure in the American early music scene and winner of a Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording in 2015 for Charpentier’s “La Descente d’Orphée Aux Enfers,” and will be directed by Tara Faircloth, who directed two world premieres with the Houston Grand Opera’s East+West series.

Merola is one of the most prestigious and selective opera training programs in the world, featuring 29 artists selected from more than 800 international applicants. Among the artists that have been featured in the program are Jane Archibald, René Barbera, Andrew Bidlack, Jennifer Black, Joyce DiDonato, and many others.

“Il Re Pastore” is slated to be presented on July 19 and 21, 2018 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
