On Dec. 12, 2017, Medici.tv will present Puccini’s “La Bohème” from the Paris Opera.
The new production by Claus Guth, which takes place in space, stars Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva and Maestro Gustavo Dudamel. Rising star Aida Garifullina stars as Musetta while Atalla Ayan is Rodolfo and Artur Ruciński is Marcello.
When the production opened audiences booed it but critics were ecstatic with Yoncheva. They stated, “Sonya Yoncheva is a dream of a Mimì; she simply opens her mouth and sings, and in that moment, nothing else matters.“
Yoncheva next goes to the Metropolitan Opera for a new production of Puccini’s “Tosca” with Vittorio Grigolo and Sir Bryn Terfel and also makes her role debut in the title role of “Luisa Miller” at the Met. She also performs at the Teatro alla Scala in “Il Pirata” and returns to the Salzburg Festival in “L’Incoronazione di Poppea.” She also releases her third album for Sony Classical in February dedicated to Verdi.
Garifullina next sings the role of Juliette in “Romeo et Juliette” at the Liceu and Gilda in “Rigoletto” from the Wiener Staatsoper.
The broadcast begins at 1:30 pm EST.
