Medici To Stream Alma Deutscher’s Opera ‘Cinderella’

By Francisco Salazar

On Dec. 20, 2017, Medici.TV will present Alma Deutscher’s Opera “Cinderella.”

The Packard Humanities Institute and Opera San José will present the American premiere and world premiere of the English language version of 12-year-old composer, violinist, and pianist Deutscher’s opera from San Jose, California.

The new work marks her second opera which reimagines the familiar and beloved fairytale, creating a lively comic work that features the composer herself playing the violin, piano, and organ.

The opera resets the fairy tale as taking place in an opera company run by Cinderella’s evil stepmother. Cinderella, a composer, is treated with contempt by her family while the character of the Prince is a poet. When Prince finds Cinderella’s lost melody for his poem, the opera draws to its happy climax.

Jane Glover conducts the new work in a new production by Brad Dalton. The cast includes Vanessa Becerra as Cinderella, Jonas Hacker as the Prince and Nathan Stark as the King.

The opera begins at  8:00PM PST/10:00PM CST/11:00PM EST.
