By David Salazar

Verdi’s “Otello” will appear at the Madison Lyric Stage this summer.

The famous masterwork will be showcased on June 16, 17, 23 and 25 at the North Madison Congregational Church in Madison, CT.

Taking on the notoriously challenging title role will be tenor Marc Deaton who has appeared all over the world and has made four recordings, including Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” for Titanic Records.

Soprano Lara Ryan will appear as the loyal Desdemona while the conniving Iago will be interpreted by Mark Womack.

The opera will be directed by Marc Verzatt who has directed opera, operetta, and musical theater throughout the US, South America, and Europe. He has directed productions with the Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, Florida Grand Opera, and the opera companies of Fort Worth, Lake George, Madison, Arizona, Toledo, Atlanta, Kansas City, Baltimore, Idaho, and Mississippi.

In the pit will be Glen Cortese who will conduct 22 members of the Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra and a chorus of 25. This production will be the first time that the company uses a complete orchestra.

Tickets for the production start at $35.
