Lyric Opera Of Chicago Announces Cast For ‘Fellow Travelers’

The cast of Lyric Opera of Chicago’s opera upcoming production of “Fellow Travelers” has been announced.

For the Chicago premiere of the work tenor Jonas Hacker and baritone Joseph Lattanzi will sing the lead roles of Timothy Laughlin and Hawkins Fuller in the LGBT opera about two men who fall in love during the height of the McCarthy era in 1950s Washington D.C.

Devon Guthrie will sing the role of Mary Johnson, Hawkins’s assistant and Timothy’s confidante.

Kevin Newbury directs the opera which is slated to be conducted by Daniela Candillari.

Written by Gregory Spears with libretto by Greg Pierce, “Fellow Travelers,” is the latest in Lyric Unlimited, the Lyric’s department devoted to education, community engagement, and new artistic initiatives.

Lyric Unlimited has previously presented area-premiere and world-premiere works including “Cruzar la cara de la luna,””El Pasado Nunca se termina,” “The Property,” and most recently “Charlie Parker’s YARDBIRD” at the Lyric Opera and other Chicago area venues.

The upcoming run is slated for March 17 through the 25, 2018.
