The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera’s 29th Annual International Vocal Competition is right around the corner and artistic director Lucine Amara is making a formal invitation for competitors of all ages to submit their applications.

The competition itself will take place later this fall, but the registration period has two major deadlines. The early bird registration ends on July 31, 2017, while the final application deadline is on Oct. 31, 2017.

The preliminary auditions take place in November on the first, third, sixth and eighth while the final auditions for the competition are slated for Dec. 6, 2017. The auditions will take place at The Liederkranz Foundation, 6 East 87 Street in New York City.

Among the judge in the preliminary auditions will be Metropolitan Opera legend Lucine Amara, Lucy Arner, who is Music Director/Principal Conductor of Verismo Opera, Verismo Opera general manager, and stage director Evelyn La Quaif.

“Singers should do as many auditions as they can.  It helps get rid of nerves, allows them to work through any difficulties, and most importantly, gives them much-needed feedback.  Our competition gives the artist all three and gives them the opportunity to participate in a free masterclass,” said Amara in a press release. The legendary singer performed for over 40 years at the Metropolitan Opera in 882 on stage performances in 56 roles.

The first prize winner will get a $2,000 prize while second place will get $1,000 and the third place finisher will obtain $500. All finalists will, however, get feedback, extensive free coaching on language, style and presentation, and the opportunity to perform in Verismo Opera’s fully staged upcoming productions
