By Francisco Salazar

On Oct. 27, 2018, Liudmyla Monastyrska will make her role debut as Leonora in “Il Trovatore.”

The soprano will sing the Verdi role at the production at Staatsoper Berlin alongside Fabio Sartori, Violetta Urmana, and Vladislav Sulimsky. Eun Sun Kim will conduct the production by Philipp Stölzl, which was originated in 2013.

This will mark the third major role debut for Monastyrska this year. Earlier this year the soprano sang her first “Manon Lescaut” in Puccini’s opera at the Teatro Real and she also sang her first “Norma” in the Ukraine and the Houston Grand Opera.

This season the soprano also returns to the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Wiener Staatsoper, and the Royal Opera House for “La Forza del Destino,” “Tosca,” and “Nabucco.”

“Il Trovatore” opens on Oct. 27 and runs through Nov. 11, 2018.
