Liszt’s ‘Sardanapalo’ To Get World Premiere Recording

By Francisco Salazar

The world premiere recording of Liszt’s “Sardanapalo” is set to be released.

Audite will release the new recording of Franz Liszt’s long-lost opera featuring Joyce El-Khoury, Airam Hernandez and Oleksandr Pushniak with the Staatskapelle Weimar conducted by Kirill Karabits.

The work had its world premiere over the summer and El-Khoury told OperaWire, “The composition style is quite interesting in that it has bel canto elements, with a slightly denser instrumental texture. I hear Strauss and Wagner in the music and it also reminds me of Italian opera, such as Mascagni.”

The world premiere was one of two that El-Khoury was involved with during the year. She also gave the world premiered of Donizetti’s “L’Ange de Nisidia,” which is also slated for release with Opera Rara.

The recording is slated for release on Feb. 8, 2019.
