Landestheater Coburg Postpones Opening Night Of ‘Rusalka’

By Francisco Salazar

The premiere of Dvorak’s “Rusalka” at the Landestheater Coburg was canceled after intermission on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

The opera was canceled after tenor Milen Bozhkov fell ill. Before the start of the performance, the company had announced the tenor was ill due to an allergy-related cause, but would sing. However, after intermission, Generalmusikdirektor Roland Kluttig and Commercial Director Fritz Frömming announced that Bozhkov would not be able to continue and there was no cover.

The company has canceled its scheduled performance for April 25 and has rescheduled the premiere for April 29. According to a press release, Bozhkov is still recovering and will not be able to sing the premiere. As a result, the company has recruited a guest singer, who will get a week to rehearse the production.

Landestheater Coburg has announced that tickets from April 22 can be exchanged for Sunday, April 29th  and will also apply to tickets already purchased on the canceled April 25. Ticketholders will also get the chance to be refunded.
