LA Opera To Simulcast ‘Carmen’

By Francisco Salazar

The LA Opera simulcast is back and this year the company will bring the experience to the Los Angeles community on Sept. 23, 2017.

With the help of the Los Angeles County and the Board of Supervisors, the Los Angeles Opera will broadcast the evening’s performance of “Carmen” to the Santa Monica Pier and Exposition Park.

The opera is set to star Ana María Martinez in the title role with Brandon Jovanovich as Don José and Amanda Woodbury as Michaëla. James Conlon leads the LA Opera orchestra and chorus.

The LA Opera simulcast program is one of the company’s newest and most expansive programs, sharing the first opera of the season with thousands of LA residents across three diverse geographic locations, and all at the same time. Last season the company showcased Verdi’s “Macbeth” with Plácido Domingo and Ekaterina Semenchuk. It wound up being the most attended event since the program’s first year.
