Kirsten Chambers will make her Met debut in the title role of this evening’s performance of Strauss’s “Salome,” replacing Patricia Racette, who is ill.

Th Met press office announced the news this morning. Chambers is a rising star in the opera world and recently covered the role of Isolde in Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” at the Metropolitan Opera.

Last season the soprano made her debut as Dvorak’s “Rusalka” at Lyric Opera of Kansas City and Leonore in Beethoven’s “Fidelio” for the grand opening of New Amsterdam Opera.  She recently made her Carnegie Hall debut with the American Symphony Orchestra and has sung the title role of “Salome” with the Opera Hong Kong.

Racette garnered rave reviews for her portrayal of “Salome.” Operawire called her performance a “Riveting Performance” and noted that she was ” fearless” in the Dance of the Seven Veils.  Racette is expected to return to the rest of the performances of “Salome.”

Chambers will join Zeljko Lucic, Nancy Fabiola Herrera and Gerhard Siegel in the performance of “Salome.”
