Juan Diego Flórez, Roberto Alagna & Cecilia Bartoli Headline Opéra Monte Carlo 2017-18 Season

Opéra Monte Carlo has announced its 2017-18 season with a diverse amount of operas.

The season’s first production, Rossini’s “La Cenerentola,” opens on Oct. 29, 2017, with Cecilia Bartoli leading the cast. Nicola Alaimo, Rebecca Olvera, Carlos Chausson, and Edgardo Rocha round out the cast in Jean-Pierre Ponnelle’s classic production.

Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur” takes the stage on Nov. 19, 2017, with a cast that includes Barbara Frittoli in the title role and Roberto Alagna as Maurizio. Luciana D’Intino rounds out the cast in Davide Livermore’s production.

On Dec. 3, 2017, the company will give two concert performances of Bellini’s “I Puritani” with Annick Massis, Celso Albelo, and Erwin Schrott. Domingo Hindoyan conducts the performances.

Jean-Louis Grinda stages a new production of Offenbach’s “Les Contes D’Hoffmann” on Jan 22, 2018. The production will star Juan Diego Flórez in his role debut as Hoffmann and Olga Peretyatko as the four heroines. Jacques Lacombe conducts.

Jose Cura brings his staging of Britten’s “Peter Grimes” to the company. The tenor will also sing the title role with Ann Petersen as Ellen Orford. The production starts Feb. 20, 2018.

Nicolas Joel’s 2009 production of Gounod’s “Faust” heads to Monte Carlo with Marina Rebeka and Joseph Calleja. The production opens March 29, 2018, and will be conducted by Laurent Campellone.

The final production of the year will be Verdi’s “I Masnadieri” with Danielle Callegari conducting. Ramon Vargas, Carmen Giannattasio and Nicola Alaimo headline the new production, which opens April 19, 2018.

The season will also feature Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov in a concert on Feb. 1, 2018, with excerpts from “Adriana Lecouvreur,” “Tosca,” “La Wally,” “Turandot,” and “Cavalleria Rusticana.”
