Juan Diego Flórez, Renée Fleming & Cecilia Bartoli Highlight Palau de La Musica 2018-19 Season

The Palau de la Musica has announced its 2018-19 season, featuring a number of great performers and concerts with varying repertoire.

As with previous announcements, we will only focus on the operatic and vocal performances. Take a look.

Palau 100

Golda Schultz joins Gustavo Dudamel in Mahler’s Fourth Symphony. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra is led by Dudamel, who also conducts Schubert’s Third Symphony.

Performance Date: Sept. 19, 2018

Cecilia Bartoli sings the title role in Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” with Edgardo Rocha,
Alessandro Corbelli, and Carlos Chausson. Les Musiciens du Prince are led by Gianluca Capuano.

Performance Date: Oct 25, 2018

Handel’s “Messiah” gets a performance in time for the holiday season with soloists Martina Janková, Anna Harvey, Mauro Peter, and Konstantin Wolff. Daniel Hope conducts. 

Performance Dates: Dec. 13, 2018 

Katja Stuber, Marion Eckstein, Jan Petryka, and Reinhard Mayr star in Mozart’s Requiem Kerll’s “Missa Non sine quare.” Thomas Hengelbrock conducts the Balthasar Neumann Chor and Ensemble. 

Performance Date: Jan. 28, 2019

Renée Fleming sings a recital of works by Brahms and Schubert, among others.

Performance Dates: Feb. 5, 2019

Suzanne Vega performs Glass’ “Einstein on the Beach” under Georges-Elie Octors.

Performance Date: May 27, 2019

Palau Great Voices 

Simon Keenlyside and Malcolm Martineau team up for an evening of lieder. The program is set to include works by Schubert, Wolf, Poulenc, Fauré, Vaughan Williams, Ireland, and Grainger.

Performance Dates: Oct. 10, 2018

Magdalena Kožená and Mitsuko Uchida team up for a recital of music by Schumann, Wolf, Dvořák, and Schönberg.
Performance Date: Jan. 17, 2019
Juan Diego Flórez will give a recital with a pianist and program still to be determined.
Performance Date: May 7, 2019
Diana Damrau and Xavier de Maistre continue their acclaimed recital series featuring the music of Mendelssohn and Rachmaninov.
Performance Dates: May 10, 2019
Palau Bach 
Philippe Herreweghe leads Schein’s Israelis Brünnlein with soloists Dorothee Mields, Hana Blažiková, Robert Getchell, Thomas Hobbs, and Peter Kooij. Performance Date: Dec. 3, 2018

Paul McCreesh leads Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion with Gabrieli Consort & Players.
Performance Date: April 10, 2019

Dorothee Mields, Hana Blažíková, Alex Potter, Thomas Hobbs, and Krešimir Stražanac sing Bach’s Mass in B Minor with Philippe Herreweghe conducting. 

Performance Date: June 12, 2019

Schubert Series 

Matthias Goerne and Leif Ove Andsnes team up for three concerts featuring Schubert’s “Die schöne Müllerin,” “Winterreise”, and “Schwanengesang.”
Performance Dates: March 4, 5, & 7, 2019
Symphonic Concerts 
James Ross conducts Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with soloists to be determined.
Performance Date: Sept. 22, 2018
Mezzo-soprano Anna Alàs i Jové joins maestro Diego M. Etxebarría in an evening of Waltzes and Polkas.
Performance Date: Dec. 22, 2018
Xavier Puig leads both Faure’s and Rutter’s Requiems.
Performance Date: April 13, 2019
A concert performance of “La Bohème” will also happen with soloists and a conductor still to be determined.
Performance Date: May 18, 2019
El Primer Palau 
Since 1996, the Palau offers young performers who are on the threshold of professional career the opportunity to experience an exceptional performance in the Concert Hall of the Palau de la Música, and communicate with an audience attentive.
Performance Dates: Oct. 1,8, 15, & 22, 2018
Mercedes Gancedo, winner of the 2017 primer palau, gives a recital featuring songs by Wolf, Strauss, Schumann, Bernstein, and Debussy, among others.
Performance Date: Nov. 27, 2018
