Joyce DiDonato, Sonya Yoncheva, Paulo Szot And Piotr Beczala To Ring In The New Year From Germany and New York

On New Year’s Eve many operatic stars will celebrate the New Year performing on stage. There will be many productions of “Die Fledermaus” and the Metropolitan Opera will present a new production of Gounod’s “Rome et Juliette.” However for those not interested in seeing a complete opera and interested in something lighter, many of the world’s greatest stars will perform in numerous concerts selections from operettas, operas and musicals.

Two concerts in particular are must sees. The first will be held in New York at David Geffen Hall and is completely sold out. The concert by the New York Philharmonic will star Grammy winning mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and Tony winner Paulo Szot.

After a lengthy tour of her new CD “In War and Peace,” DiDonato” will performs selections from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Carousel” and “The Sound of Music.” She will also perform alongside Szot in pieces from Lerner and Loewe’s “My Fair Lady.” Alan Gilbert will conduct the concert which will also include Waltzes by Strauss II and pieces by Copeland.

For those who are unable to don’t have tickets, PBS will broadcast the concert live at 8pm.

In Germany at Baden Baden Festival, Sonya Yoncheva and Piotr Beczala will join forces for the annual Silver Concert. The concert will include music by Gounod, Massenet and Bizet. It will also include music from operettas by Offenbach, Lehar and Strauss. There will also be selections by Edith Piaf and Künneke. Domingo Hindoyan, Yoncheva’s husband, will lead the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern in this Silver Concert that promises to be unforgettable.
