José Carreras To Make New York Comeback This Fall

By David Salazar

For the first time since 2003, New York audiences will get a chance to hear the legendary José Carreras in concert.

The tenor will appear on Sept. 28, 2017, in a recital featuring soprano Margarita Griskova and pianist Lorenzo Bavaj. The concert is part of the tenor’s Final World Tour entitled A Life in Music, which started back in 2016 with a  successful performance at the sold-out Royal Albert Hall, London.

The tour has since continued all around the world in Australia, Korea, South America and other parts of Europe.

New York holds a special place for Carreras, as the tenor appeared as a major Metropolitan Opera star 72 times in such operas as “Tosca,” “La Bohème,” “La Traviata,” “Adriana Lecouvreur,” “Carmen,” “Luisa Miller,” and “La Forza del Destino.” His final performance at the Met took place in 2000 in Act four of “Carmen” as part of the Millennial Celebration Gala. His final fully staged production with the company came in 1987.

“New York has always held a special place in my heart, and Carnegie Hall is one of my all-time favorite places to perform. I look forward to returning to America and singing this wonderful selection of arias that have meant so much to me throughout my life in music.”
