Opera fans are getting an early Christmas present from tenor Jonas Kaufmann.

The German tenor sent out a message with a picture of him smiling. The message stated, “Dear Friends, once again I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks for your support, your empathy and loyalty during those difficult times I had to face during the last months. As you can see I’m fine, and I’m looking forward to be back on stage singing for you very soon. Wish you all a Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.”

Over the past three months Kaufmann has cancelled all of his engagements due to illness. Back in October, he posted a message that said, “the side effects of a medicine made burst a small blood vessel on my vocal cords. To avoid permanent damage, I have to stop singing until the hematoma has completely subsided.” The tenor recently cancelled the Nobel Peace Concert as well as his recital debut in Monte Carlo. He also cancelled the Grand Opening concert in Hamburg. This last cancellation brought out speculation that he would cancel his engagements in Paris. However, based on his message it looks like audiences should expect him to return to the stage in January for Wagner’s “Lohengrin.”

Kaufmann is also scheduled to do a residency in London at the Barbican for a series of concerts that includes music by Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner. He is also scheduled to makes his role debut in the role of Verdi’s “Otello” at the Royal Opera House.
