Jonas Kaufmann to Perform at Teatro Alla Scala

Famed tenor Jonas Kaufmann will give an exclusive recital at the Teatro alla Scala on Oct. 22, 2020.

For this occasion, Kaufmann will partner with his longtime collaborator, pianist Helmut Deutsch.

The program reflects the tenor’s personal choice of  repertoire, much of it has been featured on Kaufmann’s latest album Selige Stunde.

The choices for the evening will include Schubert’ “Der Musensohn,” D 764; Beethoven’s “Zärtliche Liebe,” WoO 123, and “Adelaide,” Op. 46; Mozart’s “Sehnsucht nach dem Frühling,” K. 596, and “Das Veilchen,” K. 476; Silcher’s “Ännchen von Tharau;”  Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s “Gruß,” Op. 19 No. 5, and “Auf Flügeln des Gesanges,” Op. 34 No. 2; Schumann’s “Wiedmung,” from “Myrthen;” Liszt’s “Es muss ein Wunderbares sein,” S. 314; Grieg’s “Ich liebe dich;” Bohm’s “Still wie die Nacht;” von Zemlinsky’s “Selige Stunde,” Op. 10 No. 2; Richard Strauss’ “Zueignung,” from Acht Lieder Op. 10 No. 1; Schubert’s “Die Forelle,” D 550, “Der Jüngling an der Quelle,” D 300, and “Wandrers Nachtlied II,” D 768; Brahms’ “Wiegenlied” from Fünf Gesänge Op. 49 No. 4, and “Da unten im Tale,” WoO 33, No. 6; Chopin and Melichar’s “In mir klingt ein Lied” – Étude in E major op. 10 No. 3; Tchaikovsky’s “Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt;” Schumann’s “Mondnacht” from Liederkreis, Op. 39 No. 5; Richard Strauss’ “Allerseelen” from Acht Lieder op. 10 n. 8; Wolf’s “Verborgenheit” and “Verschwiegene Liebe;” and Mahler’s “Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen.”

Kaufmann is slated to return to the stage in the role of Siegmund in Wagner’s “Die Walküre,” as part of a concert performance of “Der Ring des Nibelungen” at Opéra National de Paris in November 2020.
