Jonas Kaufmann To Make Role Debut In ‘Die Fledermaus’

Jonas Kaufmann is set to make his role debut as Eisenstein in “Die Fledermaus.”

The tenor will participate in the Dresden Staatskapelle’s annual New Year’s Eve concert, which will be televised worldwide. Kaufmann joins Rachel Willis-Sorensen, who will portray Rosalinde, Elisabeth Kulman as Prince Orlofsky, and Andreas Schager as Alfred.

Franz Welser-Moist will conduct the performances the two performances on Dec. 29 and 30.

Kaufmann is currently at the Bayerische Staatsoper where he is performing “Otello” alongside Anja Harertos and Gerald Finley. This season, he is set to go on tour to perform Mahler’s ‘Das Lied von der Erde” and will return to Germany for “Fidelio.” He will also open a new production of “La Forza del Destino” at the Royal Opera House alongside Anna Netrebko and Antonio Pappano.

The Staatskapelle Dresden performs an annual New Year’s Eve concert which invites some of the greatest singers in the world. Past performers have included Piotr Beczala, Anna Netrebko, Renée Fleming, and Juan Diego Flórez, among others.
