Jonas Kaufmann Cancels Strauss Gala

By Francisco Salazar

Jonas Kaufmann has canceled his upcoming Dec. 22 Strauss Gala.

In a statement, the Academia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia noted that due to illness Kaufmann was forced to cancel. As a result, ticketholders would get refunds.

Kaufmann was expected to sing the last four last songs with Antonio Pappano conducting. The program was also scheduled to include “Till Eulenspiegel” and the waltz from “Der Rosenkavalier.”

The tenor next heads to Moscow for a New Years Eve concert with Speranza Scappucci before touring Japan and heading to the US for recitals in Santa Monica and Carnegie Hall. He also tours singing Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch throughout Europe and is scheduled for “Andrea Chenier” at the Vienna State Opera. He will also appear in a new production of “Parfisal” at the Bayerische Staatsoper with Nina Stemme and Rene Pape.
