Jonas Kaufmann has canceled his recital debut in Monte Carlo.

The Monte Carlo Opera stated, “For health reasons that have lasted 3 months, Mr. Kaufmann is forced to cancel the December 12 date. The artist expresses his great regret at having to do so.”

The company continued, “The Opéra de Monte-Carlo and Mr. Kaufmann’s management are looking for an alternative date for the artist to make his much awaited Monte-Carlo debut.”

The cancellation comes on the heels of his recent withdrawals. In October Kaufmann announced that he would have to go on vocal rest due to medical conditions. He released a statement that said, “the side effects of a medicine made burst a small blood vessel on my vocal cords. To avoid permanent damage, I have to stop singing until the haematoma has completely subsided.”

The tenor is set to return to the stage in January for a production of Wagner’s “Lohengrin” at the Paris National Opera alongside Rene Pape. He will also be an artist in residence at the Barbican in London and is also scheduled for new productions of Giordano’s “Andrea Chenier” and Verdi’s “Otello.” His new DVD “Dolce Vita” is set for release this Friday.
