Jennifer Davis Withdraws from Wexford Festival Opera’s “Il bravo”

By Logan Martell

Wexford Festival Opera has announced that soprano Jennifer Davis has withdrawn from their performances of Saverio Mercadante’s opera, “Il bravo.”

David Agler, artistic director of the festival, says, “Since Ms Davis was initially engaged to sing the role in Wexford, her voice has developed, and the role is no longer suitable vocally. She would not want to sing the role in a way which would not do proper justice to the music or the public and so, along with Wexford, has regretfully decided not to continue. Wexford Festival Opera and Ms Davis hope that she will return to the Festival in the future.”

Filling the role of Violetta will be soprano Ekaterina Bakanova, who appeared in Wexford’s 2010 performances of Pergolesi’s “La serva padrona.” Wexford Festival Opera will run from October 19 to November 4, 2018; “Il Bravo” will perform on October 21, 24, 27, 30, and November 2, 2018.
