For the third evening of the Metropolitan Opera’s revival of “Semiramide,” Javier Camarena has canceled.

The tenor who also canceled the second performance announced on Feb. 24 that due to a cough he would not be able to sing. As a result, Robert McPherson will perform the role of Idreno, which he had previously done with the Vlaamse Opera and on tour at the Edinburgh Festival.

McPherson has performed numerous Rossini roles to critical acclaim including Arbace in “Ciro in Babilonia” at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Lindoro in “L’italiana in Algeri” with Opéra de Toulon and Florentine Opera. McPherson also performed Narciso in “Il Turco in Italia” with Tacoma Opera. The tenor has been on the Metropolitan Opera roster as an understudy for productions of “I Puritani” and “Il Barbiere di Siviglia.”

Javier Camarena is expected to return for the remainder of performances which include an HD showcase on March 10. The next performance is on Saturday.
