Island City Opera To Host Open Rehearsal Before Opening Night

By Francisco Salazar

The Island City Opera in San Francisco will host an open rehearsal of its upcoming production of Gaetano Donizetti’s exuberant comedy Don Pasquale.

The rehearsal will take place on Jan. 7 and showcase the company as it prepares to open its third season. But for opera goers expecting to see a fully staged production, audiences should be prepared   to hear the full opera, hear great performers as they prepare for their opening night performances in Alameda, as well as get an appreciation for what it takes to stage a full-length opera production.

However, it may also mean seeing the performance unstated and singers out of costume. It will also mean that the director could stop audiences at any time during the rehearsal.

The Island City Opera was founded three years with the mission to bring professional opera productions at affordable prices to the Alameda community and to show veteran opera-goers and novices alike the wonderful experience of great opera in an intimate setting. The company also hopes to showcase talented artists and directors and develop young artists and technical theater personnel the the community.

The season’s “Don Pasquale” will stars Eileen Meredith as Norina, Igor Vieira stars as Dr. Malatesta, Sergio Gonzalez as Ernesto and Bojan Knezevic stars as Don Pasquale.

The season opens on Jan. 20 with a preview on Jan 18. The company will also show Massenet’s “Don Quixote” in March.
