In Case You Missed It: Clips of Anna Netrebko and Piotr Beczala’s ‘Lohengrin’

By Francisco Salazar

On Jan. 29 ORF and Arte presented Wagner’s “Lohengrin” starring Anna Netrebko and Piotr Beczala.

The opera was one of the highlights from last season as it featured the role debuts of both stars. It also showcased an all star supporting cast that included Evelyn Herlitzius and was conducted by Christian Thielemann. However, the opera was only broadcast in France and Germany leaving many Netrebko and Beczala fans out cold.

However, for those that missed it, there is one clip floating on Youtube. The clip includes Beczala’s first appearance as Lohengrin and from it one gets a snippet of Netrebko and Beczala as well as Thielemann’s conducting. It should wet most fan’s appetite as they wait for a rumored DVD which has yet to be confirmed by Universal music.

More clips should appear on YouTube and Operwire will update this for fans to see more.

Netrebko is currently rehearsing a new production of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” at the Vienna State Opera with Roberto Alagna while Beczala is scoring rave reviews for his work in Massenet’s “Werther.” The tenor encored audiences on opening night after scoring a rousing ovation.

Update: The Clips that was originally included with this article has since been taken down from YouTube.  Here is a link to the original transmission available only in Europe: http://tv.orf.at/orf3/stories/2822392/
