How To Watch Salzburg’s ‘Aida’ This Weekend

“Aida” at the Salzburg Festival has been sold for months with many opera lovers left without tickets. However, this weekend those not at Salzburg or without a ticket are in luck because the performance on August 12, 2017, will be presented by radio and on TV around the world.

“Aida” will be recorded by ORF, NHK, ZDF and UNITEL in collaboration with ARTE, and will be broadcast by ORF radio on starting at 7:30 p.m. local time on the Ö1 channel and by BR radio at the same time.  At 8:15 p.m. the opera will be broadcast in a delayed relay on ORF 2 and on ARTE. ORF III will rebroadcast the performance on August 13 at 9:20 p.m. while ZDF will broadcast it on August 25.

The opera stars Anna Netrebko, Francesco Meli, Ekaterina Semechuk, and Luca Salsi. Riccardo Muti conducts the Vienna Philharmonic in Shirin Neshat’s new production sponsored by Swarovski. The production runs through August 25 with Vittoria Yeo and Yusif Eyvazov taking over the last two performances.
