How to Watch Live Stream of Vienna State Opera’s ‘Madama Butterfly,’ Starring Ana María Martínez

Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” will be live streamed from the Vienna State Opera on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, as part of the company’s ongoing streaming service.

Ana María Martínez brings her famed interpretation to Vienna alongside tenor Andrea Carè and baritone Gabriel Bermúdez. Conductor Jader Bignamini leads the musical direction in the production by Josef Gielen.

This is the final performance of “Madama Butterfly” of the 2018-19 season in Vienna, with Martínez taking on three of six; Lianna Haroutounian was the soprano of record for the first three of the run that started on Nov. 6, 2018.

Martínez has performed the role at such companies as Santa Fe Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, the LA Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Houston Grand Opera, among others.

The stream kicks off at 7:30 p.m. local time and is slated to run until around 10:15 p.m. That is a start time of 1:30 p.m. EDT and 10:30 a.m. PST for the start time.

Per the official website, tickets start at 14 euros (approximately $16 USD) and can be purchased right off the Vienna State Opera’s streaming website. There are options for monthly subscriptions to future performances on the service depending on users’ preference for experience opera from the comfort of their homes.

Next up on the slate of live streams will be “Die Weiden,” Hänsel und Gretel,” and “Die Fledermaus.”
