How to Watch Jonas Kaufmann in ‘Otello’ Live From Bayerische Staatsoper

By David Salazar

The Bayerische Staatsoper will live stream the Dec. 2 performance of Verdi’s “Otello” via its Staatsoper.TV.

The free transmission will kick off at 7 p.m. local time (1 p.m. EST and 10 a.m. PST) and is set to feature Jonas Kaufmann in the title role. Anja Harteros will star as Desdemona and Gerald Finley will round out the cast as Iago.

This will be Kaufmann’s second go-around with the famed title role. He first performed as the tragic hero in 2016 at the Royal Opera House and drew strong reviews. “Kaufmann is now undeniably the greatest Otello interpreter of his time,” said OperaWire’s review of the hotly anticipated run of performances.

The production in Munich will be directed by Amélie Niermeyer with Kirill Petrenko in the pit.

You can watch the stream right here on the day of the event. The performance will be available until Dec. 4 at 11:59 p.m. local time.

The Bayerische Staatsoper is also planning streams for “The Bartered Bride,” “Karl V,” and “La Fanciulla Del West,” “Jewels,” “Alceste,” and “Salome.”
