How to Listen to Isabel Leonard & Juan Diego Florez’s Debuts in ‘Werther’ At Teatro Comunale di Bologna

Isabel Leonard and Juan Diego Florez will make their role debuts in Massenet’s “Werther” on Thursday at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

The performance will be broadcast via radio through Radio RAI at 8 PM Local Time (2 PM EST).

The cast also includes Jean-François Lapointe as Albert and Ruth Iniesta as Sophie. Michelle Mariotti will be in the pit for the entire run of four performances that continue on Dec. 18, 21 and 23. Celso Albelo will be alternating with Florez throughout the run.

Leonard is slated to reprise the role of Sophie in early 2017 at the Metropolitan Opera where she will play the love interest to Vittorio Grigolo’s interpretation of the title role. Those performances get started on February 16 and run through March 9 with a radio broadcast slated for the March 4 presentation. She will also be singing Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the house in April and will perform in the 50th Anniversary Gala. However, before returning to Charlotte in February, Leonard’s January will including a series of performances with the Phoenix Symphony and a “Music of Spain” recital in Palm Beach Florida with pianist Sharon Isbin.

Florez will reprise the role in Opernhaus Zurich in April for nine performances starting on April 2 and ending on April 30. He will perform alongside Anna Stephany under the baton of Cornelius Meister. In between his two runs of “Werther,” Florez will be taking on roles in “La Sonnambula” “Romeo et Juliette.”
