The Houston Grand Opera has announced that it will be streaming the opening performance of “The Snowy Day.”

The opera, which will world premiere on Dec. 9, represents the company’s 71st world premiere ever. The opera was composed by Joel Thompson and features a libretto by Andrea David Pinkney.

The opera will star Raven McMillon alongside Nicholas Newton, Elena Villalón, Blake Denson, Cory McGee, and Ricardo Garcia. Rounding out the cast will be Karen Slack and Andres Acosta. Omer Ben Seadia will direct with Patrick Summers conducting.

“Not only is The Snowy Day a truly magical new opera, it is the exact kind of work that breaks down barriers to the artform and attracts diverse audiences to HGO,” said General Director and CEO Khori Dastoor in an official press statement. “Because of that, we want to share its world premiere with as many people as possible, inside and outside the Wortham, in person and digitally. Our plans to stream The Snowy Day are true to our
mission of creating accessibility around opera, and we could not be more excited about this opportunity.”

The opera will run until Dec. 19, 2021 and the stream will be available until Jan. 8, 2022.
