Houston Grand Opera

It may not be until next season, but Houston Grand Opera has announced auditions for its upcoming production of Bernstein’s “West Side Story.”

The HGO announced on social media that “HGO is seeking charismatic young dancers/singers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds to portray various roles in WEST SIDE STORY, with a preference for Houston-area performers. Auditioning artists should have strong dance technique and classical/traditional musical theater vocal training. Preliminary auditions will be on November 5, with callbacks on November 6.”

The production is slated to open on April 20, 2018, and run through May 6, 2018. Norman Reinhardt will star in the role of Tony, while Andrea Carroll will play Maria. Alicia Gianni will play the iconic role of Anita. Francesca Zambello directs the production, which is slated to be conducted by Timothy Myers.
