Houston Grand Opera Launches First Children’s Book

The Houston Grand Opera has announced that it will launch the children’s book, “The Armadillo’s Dream” in collaboration with HGOco. This is the company’s first-ever commissioned storybook.

It was authored by HGOco Touring Programs Manager Dennis Arrowsmith, in his first book. Per a press release, the book “tells the story of Sandy, an armadillo whose fondest wish is to sing onstage with Houston Grand Opera at the Wortham Theater Center.

The book will be the first of five opera-themed storybooks for Storybook Opera.

The company is currently in the midst of a run of performances of “The Flying Dutchman” and will kick off Puccini’s “La Bohème” on Oct. 26, 2018. This latter production will run for six performances through Nov. 11 and is set to star Nicole Heaston, Ivan Magri, Michael Sumuel, Pureum Jo, and Federico De Michelis, among others. James Low conducts while John Caird will stage-direct.

Other productions set for later this season include “Florencia en el Amazonas,” “The Pearl Fishers,” “Don Giovanni,” and “The Phoenix.”
