Hibla Gerzmava Steps In For Dinara Alieva At Major Royal Opera House Production

The Royal Opera House has announced that Dinara Alieva has withdrawn from singing the role of Liù in this summer’s revival of Puccini’s “Turandot.”

The role will now be performed by Abkhazian-Russian soprano Hibla Gerzmava on July 5, 9, 12 and 15

Gerzmava made her Royal Opera debut in 2008 as Tatyana in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” and has since returned to sing Mimì in Puccini’s “La bohème,” Donna Anna in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and Amelia Grimaldi in Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra.” She is a member of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre in Moscow where she has performed numerous roles including Verdi’s “La Traviata” and Donizetti’s ‘Lucia di Lammermoor.” Recently Gerzmava performed in “Don Giovanni” for Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera. She also headlined Donizetti’s “Anna Bolena” for the Teatro alla Scala.

“Turandot” is slated to star Christine Goerke and Aleksandrs Antonenko. The opera will be conducted by Sergey Levitin.
