Here Are the Singers Performing At the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center

By David Salazar

The Chamber Society of New York has announced its series of concerts for next season. Sure enough, there are some major opera singers putting on unique concert experiences, though the vocal offerings are minimal at best.

The one that exudes the biggest star wattage takes place on Sunday Oct. 29, 2017 in a program honoring the 100th birthday celebration of Leonard Bernstein. The concert is entitled “Arias and Barcarolles” after Bernstein’s own piece, which is featured prominently on the programs. Composed in 1988, “Arias and Barcarolles” is set for mezzo-soprano, baritone and two pianos. This program will showcase Nathan Gunn and Tamara Mumford with Sebastian Knauer and Anne-Marie McDermott at the piano.

The program also features Brahms’ Libeslieder Walzer for Vocal Quartet and two pianists. Gunn and Mumford are joined by soprano Susanna Phillips and tenor Nicholas Phan.

There is also an Ives Quartet and a Webern String quartet piece, which will be performed by the Escher String Quartet.

On Jan. 19, 2018, a Homage to Schubert will feature baritone Nikolay Borchev while soprano Tony Arnold will appear in a New Music Concert on Jan. 25, 2018.

The series kicks off in mid-October and runs all the way through May. There is also a summer series that starts in early July and ends a week later.
