Gregory Kunde & Kristine Opolais Headline Teatro Comunale Di Bologna’s 2020 Season

The Teatro Comunale di Bologna has announced its 2020 season. Here is a look at what to expect.

The season opens with Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” conducted by Juraj Valčuha and in a new production by Ralf Pleger. Stefan Vinke and Ann Petersen take on the title role s with Albert Dohmen, Martin Gantner, and Ekaterina Gubanova.

Performance Dates: Jan. 24-31, 2020

Karah Son, Cristina Melis, Piero Pretti, and Dario Solari make up the cast of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” with Pinchas Steinberg conducting.

Performance Dates: Feb. 20-27, 2020

Antonino Siragusa, Nicola Alaimo, Alessandro Corbelli, Chiara Amarù, and Gabriele Sagona star in Rossini’s “La Cenerentola.” Yi-Chen Lin conducts Emma Dante’s production.

Performance Dates: March 18-24, 2020

Toni Servillo and Imma Villa star in Vacchi’s “Eternapoli” with conductor Claire Gibault. The opera is a co-production with Arena del Sole.

Performance Dates: March 27 & 28, 2020

Donizetti’s “L’Elisir D’Amore” is set to be conducted by Jonathan Brandani and directed by Pablo Maritano. The production will showcase two casts including Maria Rita Combattelli, Beatriz de Sousa Chaveiro, Klodjan Kaçani, César Augusto Arrieta Salazar, Alberto Bonifazio, Jacobo Ochoa Piedrahita, Givi Gigineishvili, Matteo Andrea Mollica, Sofía Esparza Jáuregui, and Leonora Tess.

Performance Dates: April 4-10, 2020

Ido Arad conducts Verdi’s “Luisa Miller” in a semi-staged production with Gregory Kunde, Riccardo Zanellato, Martina Belli, Franco Vassallo, and Myrtò Papatanasiu.

Performance Dates: April 15-21, 2020

Alberto Malazzi conducts Haydn’s monumental “La Creazione.”

Performance Dates: April 23 & 24, 2020

Kristine Opolais sings the title role of Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur” with a cast that includes Roberto Aronica,  Alessandro Corbelli, and Veronica Simeoni. Asher Fisch conducts the new production by Rosetta Cucchi.

Performance Dates: May 9-17, 2020

Yolanda Auyanet sings the title role of Donizetti’s “Lucrezia Borgia” with Andriy Yurkevych conducting the new production by Silvia Paoli. Mirco Palazzi, Stefan Pop, and Cecilia Molinari round out the cast.

Performance Dates: June 16-23, 2020

A new double bill is made up of Schonberg’s “La Mano Felice” and Bartok’s “Bluebeard’s Castle.” Marco Angius conducts Stefano Ricci’s new production with a cast that includes Gabor Bretz and Atala Schöck.

Performance Dates: July 7-12, 2020

Gregory Kunde sings his signature role in Verdi’s “Otello” with  Franco Vassallo and Mariangela Sicilia rounding out the cast. Asher Fisch conducts the new production by Gabriele Lavia.

Performance Dates: Nov. 11-18, 2020

Benedetta Torre, Valentina Mastrangelo, Rame Lahaj, and Andrea Vincenzo Bonsignore star Puccini’s “La Boheme” with conductor Francesco Ivan Ciampa.
