The Grammy Nominations have been announced with many of today’s biggest stars shortlisted.
In the Best Opera Recording category Pentatone Music led the field with two nominations as the record label was shortlisted for James Conlon’s recording of John Corigliano’s “The Ghosts Of Versailles.” The recording stars Joshua Guerrero, Christopher Maltman, Lucas Meachem, Patricia Racette, Lucy Schaufer and Guanqun Yu. The Los Angeles Opera Orchestra and Chorus also participated in the recording.
The label was also nominated for Jennifer Higdon’s first recording of “Cold Mountain.” The recording is from the Santa Fe Opera with Miguel Harth-Bedoya conducting. The opera stars Emily Fons, Nathan Gunn, and Grammy winners Jay Hunter Morris and Isabel Leonard.
Universal Music also had a good showing in the category with two nominations. Cecilia Bartoli’s recording of Handel’s “Giulio Cesare” was nominated for Decca Records. The recording is conducted by Giovanni Antonini and also stars Philippe Jaroussky, Andreas Scholl and Anne-Sofie von Otter.
Universal was also nominated for the Deutsche Grammophon recording of Mozart’s “
Le Nozze Di Figaro” The opera which is part of a series of Mozart recordings is conducted by the Metropolitan Opera’s new music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and stars Thomas Hampson, Christiane Karg, Luca Pisaroni, Rolando Villazon & Sonya Yoncheva.
Finally Opus Arte is nominated for the Royal Opera House DVD recording of Szymanowski’s “Król Roger.” Conducted by music director Antonio Pappano, the opera stars Georgia Jarman, Mariusz Kwiecień and Saimir Pirgu.
In the Best Vocal Recording category Universal had more to celebrate as Anna Netrebko’s new Deutsche Grammphon album “
Verismo” was nominated alongside Dorothea Röschmann and Mitsuko Uchida’s album of Schumann and Berg works. Magdalena Kožená’s Monteverdi album for Archiv Produktions was also another big win for Universal music.
The rest of the category was rounded out by Ian Bostridge’s Shakespeare Songs album for Warner Classics and Sabine Devieilhe’s Mozart: The Weber Sisters album for Erato.
In total Sir Antonio Pappano led the way with the most nominations with three as he was also featured in Netrebko’s Verismo album and Bostridge’s Shakespeare Song album.
