By Francisco Salazar

Opera in cinemas seems to be a major trend all around the world and the Glyndebourne Festival will continue its acclaimed transmissions.

The season gets off to a start on June 8, 2017, with the 2014 production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” starring acclaimed tenor Michael Fabiano and Bolshoi star Venera Gimadieva.

The series continues on July 10, 2017, with the brand-new opera “Hamlet” by Brett Dean, one of the most important composers of his generation. The opera will see Shakespeare’s best-known tragedy rearranged and will star Allan Clayton, Sarah Connolly, Kim Begley, John Tomlinson, Barbara Hannigan, and Rod Gilfry.

The final opera that will be presented live in cinemas will be Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito” starring Alice Coote as Sesto and Steve Davislim as Tito. Robin Ticciati conducts the work, which is being directed by Claus Guth and marks the opera’s first performance by the company since 1999.
