The George London Award was given to mezzo-soprano Samantha Gossard, soprano Rebecca Pedersen, mezzo-soprano Carolyn Sproule, tenor Charles Sy, and tenor Kyle van Schoonhoven. The five singers each got $10,000.

Meanwhile, the George London encouragement award, which is a $1,000 prize, was given to Amanda Lynn Bottoms, Sarah Joyce Cooper, Ron Dukes, Vartan Gabrielian, Shannon Jennings, Elizabeth Reiter, Olivia Smith, Matthew Swensen, Joseph Tancredi, Polixeni Tsiouvaras, and Matthew White.

The announcement was made by George London’s widow, Nora London, the foundation’s president.

“I know that George would have been so happy to hear you all. I know I need not worry about the future of opera,” Nora London said in her remarks.

This year’s panel of judges included soprano Harolyn Blackwell, George London Foundation Executive Director John Hauser, George London Foundation President Nora London, and tenor and voice professor George Shirley. The competition pianist was David Holkeboer.
