Franco Zeffirelli To Direct A New ‘Rigoletto’ In Oman

Franco Zeffirelli is set to direct a production of Verdi’s “Rigoletto” at the Royal Opera Muscat.

The new production, scheduled for 2020, will be in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Oman and the 10th anniversary of the opera house. The production will mark Zeffirelli’s return to a Verdi opera that he has not directed since 1961 at Trieste and in 1964 at the Royal Opera House in London.

The new production will be a co-production with the Fondazione Arena di Verona for the sets and artists, Fondazione Teatro dell’Opera di Roma for the costumes and in partnership with the Fondazione Franco Zeffirelli. the production will also be co-produced by the Lithuanian National Opera and the Croatian National Opera.

This season the Royal Opera Muscat is set to showcase a new production of “Lakme” and “La Scala di Seta” from the Rossini Opera Festival.
