Fifth Place Winner For BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2017 Revealed [Spoilers]

Catriona Morison will participate in the final for this year’s BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition as she has finished fifth in the main prize segment.

The announcement was made Thursday after the final round of the main prize competition. Morison, who competed Thursday, lost to Kang Wang who was picked as the winner of round four. However, Morison was picked as the wild card.

Morison is in the running for the Song Prize final on Friday where she will compete with John Chest, Iurii Samoilov, Louise Alder, and Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar. Ganbaatar and Alder are among the finalists for the main prize as well.

During the previous round of the song competition, she performed music by by Brahms, Korngold, Britten, Fauré, and Pauline Viardot.

The mezzo’s career achievements including winning the Toonkunst Oratorio Prize at the 50th edition of the Hertogenbosch Competition in Holland. She debuted with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in 2014 and even appeared at the BBC Proms in 2013. As a member of the Wuppertal Opera she has appeared in such operas as “Les Contes d’Hoffmann,” “The Love of Three Oranges,” and “Rigoletto.” She has also performed at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, the Theater Erfurt, Theater Nordhausen, Theater Hof, and the Lithuanian National Opera.
