Festival d’Opéra de Québec 2017 To Feature Anthony Roth Costanzo, ‘Don Giovanni’ & More

In just a few weeks the Festival d’Opéra de Québec kicks off its summer festival with some unique offerings.

It all gets started on July 24, 2017, with an opening night concert which will star a number of opera singers including sopranos Lyne Fortin and Magali Simard-Galdès, mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne, tenors Antoine Bélanger, Antonio Figueroa and Éric Thériault, and baritones Christopher Dunham and Jean-François Lapointe.

“Don Giovanni” opens on July 29 with a cast including Geoffrey Salvas, Dominic Veilleux, and Susan Elizabeth Brown, among others. The production, which will be performed three times, will be showcased at the Théâtre La Bordée.

On July 30, the company puts on Somers’ “Louis Riel,” which will run for three performances at the Grand Théâtre de Québec with Russell Braun in the lead role.

The Youth Opera offering, “Mascarade in Venice” will be performed at La Maison Jaune on July 25, 28 and 29 while “Shakespeare at the Opera gets performances on July 24 and 27. Those performances will feature music inspired by the bard’s works.

On August 5, 2017, countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo will perform a concert alongside Les Violons du Roy showcasing the works of Handel and Philip Glass.

Other events will include a concert dedicated to Viennese Musical Delights on August 5, and a masterclass by legendary soprano Diana Soviero on July 29, 2017.
