Festival d’Aix-en-Provence 2018 to Feature Mozart, Purcell, Strauss

Le Figaro has revealed the 2018 season for the famed Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. It will feature a grand total of six operas to celebrate the festivals’ 70th anniversary.

Mozart’s “Di Zauberflöte” will get a showcase in a production by Raphaël Pichon. There will also be a production of Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas,” which will be performed by the young artists of Adadémie d’Aix, which is celebrating its 20 years.

The world premiere of Ondrej Adamek’s “Seven Stones” will also be one of the highlights of the season.

Soprano Sabine Devieilhe will star in Strauss’ seminal masterwork “Ariadne auf Naxos” which will be directed by Katie Mitchell.

Prokofiev’s “L’Ange de feu” will also be showcased at the Grand Théâtre de Provence” in a production directed by Mariusz Trelinski.

Festival head Bernard Foccroulle will also get a chance to lead a production of “Orfeo et Majnun” as he says farewell to the festival.

This year’s festival is still going strong with productions of “Carmen,” “The Rake’s Progress,” “Don Giovanni,” and “Pinocchio,” among others.
