Everything You Need to Know About Tri-Cities Opera’s 2017-18 Season

By Katharine Baran

The Tri-Cities Opera released their new 2017-18 season this past week at its Preview Gala.

The company’s resident artists, including Soprano Stacey Geyer, Mezzo-Soprano Mary Beth Nelsom, Tenor Jordan Schreiner, and Baritone Scott, all teased the audience with selections from the upcoming productions.

Puccini’s classic “La Bohème” will kickstart the season on Sunday, October 15th at the Fordum Theatre. The next performance of the season will be in November and one on Veteran’s Day in November.

The Tri-Cities Opera is partnering with the Southern Tier Support Group to present “Glory Denied,” which is about the longest-serving American Prisoner of War during Vietnam.

The finale of the season will conclude in April 2018 with “The Tragedy of Carmen,” which like “Glory Denied,” will be at Savoca Hibbitt Hall at the Opera Center in Binghamton.

The local contributors, individual donations, and corporate sponsors, who live to keep this beautiful art form of opera alive, bring all three of these performances to you.

The number of operas this season is actually down from four this season when the company kicked things off with “La Traviata” followed up by “Hansel and Gretel” and a double bill of “L’Heure Espagnole” by Ravel and “Brettl-Lieder” by Schönberg. The 2016-17 season concludes with Phillip Glass’ “Hydrogen Jukebox,” opening on April 21 for a total of five performances. The last performance takes place on April 30.
